Donations for individuals:
Thank you for considering the Prosthetic & Orthotic Component Clearinghouse (P.O.C.C.) as a recipient for your donation. When someone passes away or receives a new prosthesis or orthosis, P.O.C.C. is a way for the old devices to be used to help people without resources for these items. Your contribution is tax deductible. Upon receiving your donation, you will be sent a tax receipt letter from MedShare acknowledging your contribution. You, however, are responsible for determining the value of the donation for tax purposes.
What about practitioner and facility donations? Every prosthetic and orthotic facility in the country has "the closet" which is usually stuffed with prostheses, orthoses, overstock items or slightly used but non-returnable goods. You can reclaim your storage space by cleaning out the closet and sending a donation to P.O.C.C. Upon receipt of your donation, a letter will be sent to your facility from MedShare International acknowledging your contribution. You, however, are responsible for determining the value of the donation for tax purposes. As we are just beginning to get up to full speed, we are requesting only donations of PROSTHETIC items through the end of 2007.
What about discontinued or overstock donations from manufacturers and distributors? If you have new items to donate to P.O.C.C., please ship them to MedShare International and include an invoice with the value of the donation. This invoice will be included as part of the tax receipt you will receive.
How can my organization gain access to P.O.C.C. for our activities? As we are just rolling out P.O.C.C., we are not distributing the donations we receive until January, 2008. You can however begin the process of registering to receive components.
Non-governmental organizations and groups who wish to obtain items from the P.O.C.C. inventory first need to register with the O&P Humanitarian Database. You will then be given a username and password so that you can access the P.O.C.C. inventory through OPIE lite. You will be able to effectively "shop" for what you need. These items will be pulled from the inventory and shipped directly to you. You will be required to provide a shipping account number to cover the costs incurred for shipping. While this project is being rolled out, there are no costs associated with the obtaining components beyond that of shipping. It is anticipated that in the future, a small fee may be charged for components in order to cover associated warehouse and personnel expenses.
